Testimonials

Had the most amazing couple of nights at the vilberie roundhouse, it had everything we needed and it couldn’t have been better. Cycled to Glastonbury on one of the days through peaceful country lanes. And relaxed for the rest of our time. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Testimonials

We had the most beautiful stay. The cabin was beautiful and the perfect base to visit nearby Wells and Glastonbury. The weather meant we couldn’t make use of the outdoor kitchen but this was a great addition. We took up the recommendation to visit Root and also booked Jo for a massage at the cabin, really recommend both 🙂

Testimonials

Our recent stay in Vilberie was incredibly tranquil and a real escape from the world. We loved it and will definitely be returning. The attention to detail, location and closeness to brilliant local points of interest, recommendations from the owners… everything was spot on! Communication from the owners and the online guide book definitely helped. We have already recommended it to numerous friends and family. We enjoyed bbqs on an evening followed by an open fire whilst watching the bats and listening to the owls , then a long bubble bath. We stayed up late and woke up later. Lazy mornings with the doors open overlooking the trees, radio on and a book in hand meant we could escape the real world. We were able to visit the local towns of Glastonbury and Wells too and enjoyed eating at Root in Wells, where we received complimentary drinks when we mentioned we were staying at Vilberie. The ambience of Root perfectly matched Vilberie and it was a fantastic recommendation for the owners to make. We have already ordered the cook book for at home too! We also enjoyed playing boules in the sunshine overlooking the Somerset countryside. Just an absolutely perfect weekend. Thank you.

Testimonials

Absolutely lovely stay at the Vilberie for a long weekend, beautiful setting, accommodation was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome by Trevor. The guidebook was very handy and we loved our little hamper. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay and explore the beautiful countryside

Testimonials

Beautiful, quiet place with plenty to do in the area. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable, the welcome basket was a nice touch. The contactless check in was great and straightforward, any questions we had where aswered promptly via WhatsApp. This meant we was not bothered by anyone and enjoyed the peace and quiet, we actually didn’t see another person whilst we was there. Over all would definitely stay at the orchard again.

The woods around this cabin were once a cider orchard (hence Vilberie, a traditional but rarely used Somerset apple) and are now a beautiful arboretum where you can spend a few wonderfully relaxing days. The cabin is no less amazing a space. In the open plan room of the main, curved pod is your bedroom, living room and kitchen, kitted out with an induction hob, king size double and a few touches of extra indulgence like a Nespresso machine. Just across the deck is where you’ll find the striking circular bathroom and the massive stone tub inside, easily big enough for two. You’ll also find the Weber BBQ and space to sit and soak up views of the Somerset levels as you cook.

If you head out, keep the binoculars handy, as this is a fantastic area for walking (or cycling on the Dutch vintage bikes provided) and bird watching. There are three RSBP reserves close by at Shapwick Heath, Ham Wall and West Hay. At dusk in the winter months you can see the world famous Starling murmurations. There are also a great many local walks on the Mendip Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: Ebor Gorge and the stunning views at Deer Leap are only a few minutes away by car. All great hiking days end at a pub of course and thankfully there are three within walking distance: The Pheasant Inn at the end of the lane and The Burcott and Ring O’Bells, both in Wookey. The Sheppey Inn at Godney is just a 10-minute drive away and well worth a visit. The quirky establishment has been rated one of the best British pubs. As well as cider and award-winning local wine on offer at the vineyard just to the north, you can also stroll through the lanes to the local goat farm in Wookey and sample their delicious range of cheeses and milk, with the added bonus of lots of friendly goats to pet!

By car

If travelling on the M4, exit at Junction 18 for Bath and follow the A39 to Wells.

Directions from Wells:

Take the Cheddar Road (A371) west out of Wells. Just as the houses on your left end you will reach the cemetery (Elm Close), bear off to the left onto the Wedmore Road (B3139).  After a mile you will pass the Burcott Inn on your right. Keep going for another 400 yards and you will see the Pheasant Inn at a fork in the road. Take the minor road (Castle Lane) on your left signposted Fenny Castle. Follow this, past the vineyard (go down the hill between the vineyard and the red brick cottage), you will go along some minor bends, then a sharper right hand bend. Within 100 yards is a junction with a farm on your left. Keep going straight on, you will pass Honeymead Farm. Only another 250 yards to go now. Watch out because the Lane narrows and is popular with horses, cyclists and walkers. After 200 yards you will see the tall firs which are the northern boundary of the property. The entrance is another 50 yards on the left hand side at the bottom of the small hill. Brown gates and Topiary? Yes you’ve made it to The Orchard!

Directions from Cheddar:

Take the Wells Road (A371) out of Cheddar. After approx 6.5 miles take the right turn (crossroads) into Henley lane. Travel along the lane into Wookey village and go past the Ring o Bells pub. Take the left hand bend and continue until the T-Junction. Turn right here. Keep going for another 200 yards, you will see the Pheasant Inn at a fork in the road. Directions from Glastonbury:

Take the A39 towards Wells for approximately 4 miles, after a couple of red brick houses you will see a bus stop on your left in a hamlet called Polsham (be careful or you might miss it), turn hard left here. If you see Wells Reclamation (first business on left in Coxley), you’ve gone too far, turn around, go back and take first right on the bend, sign-posted Fenny Castle! Turn right in 120 yards and follow lane for approx 1 mile. Turn right at T-Junction, go past the farm immediately on your right, The entrance is next on the right hand side.
